GONE NOW THANK YOU
I haven’t posted plain colour fabrics before on this site. Prints are so easy to make interesting to the eye on a website; plain fabrics can go completely unnoticed. But if you are a fabric connoisseur, please do take a moment to have a look at this divine Osc@r de la Rent@ fabric.
Actually, that is a Chl0e dress there on the left from the pre-Fall collection that came out just weeks ago, not Osc@r, but shows just how gorgeous this colour can look, and it is definitely a colour of the season.
This fabric hails from the New York fabric store we all know and love. When I visited this particular occasion, a big shipment of Osc@r fabrics had arrived in store, and there were 4 or 5 bolts of this glorious wool/silk in different colours just being placed in the special designer fabrics area.
I suspect I will fall short in conveying precisely how special this fabric is. It is most certainly high end. When I was talking to Joe at the store about this collection, he said you could normally expect to pay over $80 a yard wholesale for this fabric and I believe him. A stop at a couple of other stores in the garment district, or at many Parisian shops, and you will easily see much higher prices. But this shop must have bought up a lot of the spare bolts in the studio and got a good deal…a very good one.
This is a medium weight wool/silk fabric with a fantastic slightly crinkled surface effect. I think this fabric has a particular name but I don’t know it. (If anyone does know, could you pass the name on?) It is very tactile, you can’t help but run your hand over the surface of the fabric. The back of the fabric is flat/matte and looks as if it has a slight twill weave. The right side has the surface effect. The fabric is lovely and drapey for a medium weight.
The colour is what I would call a yellow/mustard. The colour is true on my monitors but I can’t say how it might present on yours. I am very happy to send a swatch of the fabric if anyone needs to double-check the colour, just use the email link at the bottom of this page to drop me a note for a swatch.
This fabric is perfect for a jacket, tailored or more casual, a shift, dress or skirt. Chloe features this colour (and similar) time and again in collections, including the latest pre-Fall collections.
This Osc@r wool/silk is 140cm wide and the length is 2 metres. I paid close to US $40 a yard for this fabric. I’m happy just to recover approximate costs for this piece and will price this fabric at $42 a metre/$84 for the length.
I can post the fabric in a medium satchel for $13.40. Please see here for full details on payment and posting. If interested, please click on the email link below; fabric details will appear automatically and I will get back to you asap. (Australia delivery only thanks).
Here is one more idea for the fabric. I have shown this Marni skirt before. For fabrics that have a little more substance and body I think this is the most perfect skirt design. With this Osc@r wool/silk made up in this skirt, I would simply wear it with a tailored white cotton shirt, a look that Natalie Massenet has absolutely perfected!
