This fabric is something really very special. In fact I can’t recall seeing a fabric quite like this before.
This fabric is from designer Jen Ka0 and I got it through Emma One Sock, whom I’m always so happy to recommend.
Now, how to describe this. The first thing is the fabric. It is a silk, and the surface has the texture of a silk charmeuse, but not too shiny, more like a subtle sheen. It is so lustrous, just gorgeous. The weight and sculptural effect of the fabric is the interesting thing. It is like the fabric has a sort of backing (but not another layer, more like part of the weave) that adds weight, a bit of firmness and tremendous body to the fabric. Perhaps you can see this in the way that the fabric holds its folds in the image above.
Then there is this amazing graphic print. Against a midnight blue backdrop there is an abstract design which I can’t help but think of as rows of shoreline lights at night, but could also evoke high frequency waves or something like that. Who knows. The colours are not showing up as well here as they do in the fabric itself. Imagine all the colours and facets of an opal encased in these silver etched lines and triangles. It really is exquisite.
I have put up this image before, Miranda Kerr styled by the great Grace Coddington for US Vogue. The sculptural quality of this skirt made me think of this fabric. I think this is a Dior skirt. This new silhouette is popping up in a few places. But of course, simple tops, an easy shift…these sorts of things would also be quite perfect. This fabric would be really perfect for a shell top.
You see the colours a little better in this next image.
This silk measures 115cm x 1.5 metres. Linda sold this fabric for US $36 a yard. I’m asking $38 here, which is still quite a bit cheaper than the actual cost to me once you add in the metre conversion, dollar conversion and postage. So, the price for the whole piece is $57.
I can post this fabric in the small satchel for $8.25. Please see here for full details on payment and posting. If interested, please click on the email link below; fabric details will appear automatically and I will get back to you asap. (Australia delivery only thanks).
