There’s some great inspiration around for how to bring lace to your garments without looking like you belong in a bridal party.
How’s this? Here’s the ever-chic Giovanna Battaglia. I just love the lace overlay on a plain colour background. (I can’t credit either the dress or image afraid as I came upon it from an uncredited source, but I suspect this image is from Vogue Italia. Actually yes, I can, I now see that this is a Valentino dress).
I can credit the following. This dress offers some of the loveliest lace piecework I think I’ve ever seen. Several different laces are used, that’s the key. Great if you can get your hands on some good lace remnants. This dress is by Phillip Lim and the images are from Net-A-Porter.
The piecework trend continues with lots of other designers. Appliques, cut-away effects, lace montage or even just a small lace highlight/overlay are all fabulous techniques. You can start in small ways? Like with the yoke of a top? Make a lace montage rather than a same fabric yoke.
