Lightweight silk/cotton with antique gold roses SOLD

I have held on to this piece for soooo long…I just love it so…but finally, I’m relinquishing it.

This to me is a delicate and romantic and whimsical piece of fabric just calling out to be a lovely dress.

To give you an indication of how long I have hoarded this fabric, the dress I had in mind is in a picture torn from a magazine.  I had to go ferreting through the few folders of print images that I’ve kept back after the onset of Pinterest and all the other digital images around, and do some scanning.

And the dress in the middle is it.  This was the heyday of Alberta Ferretti when she turned out one amazing creation after another.  I love the non-symmetrical details, the gentle pleats and tucks, the great casualness of the dress and the way it is styled.  To me, this fabric would have been perfect for it.  Also scanned from the print archive here, Louis Vuitton on the right…I quite like that skirt hem detail…and Valentino on the left.

I know that there is quite a bit of silk as part of the composition, maybe some viscose, maybe some cotton, I can’t be entirely sure of the final composition.  It was a fabric sample for the workroom of one of our local designers Gay Naffine.  (She will probably be familiar to some).  Gay got a lot of brilliant sample pieces, including Armani, her favourite, and I ended up getting a lot of them too!  So it is an impeccable fabric, even if I can’t quite remember the full composition now.

I’m not satisfied that I’ve captured the full beauty of this fabric in these images.  I’ll put them up, see how they look, I might re-do them.

This fabric has a gauze-y feel to it but a more substantial feel.  While it has a lovely transparency, it is not too see through, not like a chiffon or organza in the same colour would be.  The roses are a very lightly embroidered effect in a soft antique gold.  It is beautifully done.  While I see a dress, it would also be a fantastic top or evening shirt and a great skirt…full, with strappy sandals!

I can post this in the smallest satchel (with tracking) at $8.25.  Please see here for full details on payment and posting.  If interested, please click on the email below; fabric details will appear automatically and I will get back to you asap. (Australia delivery only thanks).
