Summer sunset striped silk SOLD

THIS FABRIC IS GONE NOW – MANY THANKS

I saw a photo in a magazine of the striped top worn by Giovanna Battaglia, included in the collage at the bottom of the page, and went in search of some striped silk so that I could produce a top like this.

???????????????????????????????

I thought it was one of the most stylish uses of stripes I’d seen in a long time…there was just something about it.

And I really liked how the long ties fell at the front.  Alas, I never did find a striped fabric that I thought would be a suitable one for the Battaglia top, but I did find this striped silk.  It came from one of my very favourite fabric shops in NYC, Fabrics & Fabrics.  (It is on the third floor of a building, so it is not al well-known as some of the other shops.  Big hint about the shops in the garment district — look up!  Some of the best shops in the district are in the upper floors of buildings).

This silk is just such a lovely quality.  It is a little more substantial than a crepe de chine, with a matte but slightly crepe-like surface, and is very soft and drapey.

This stripes are horizontal, but please don’t be deterred.  Horizontal stripes are not nearly as difficult to manage as people think, and I actually prefer horizontal stripes in garments.

Plus, this is a wide fabric with good length, 140cm x 2.7 metres, which gives you lots of cutting options. I’ve included lots of striped garments in the bottom collage.  But this next one shows three dresses that I think would work really well in stripes as they all cut, wrap or drape the fabric in different ways, and when you do this with stripes the effect is great.

The first dress on the left is J Mendel, the middle one is Oscar de la Renta, the one on the right appeared in Jalouse magazine but I’m not sure the designer.

The price for this silk is $25 a metre/$67 for the piece (140cm x 2.7 metres), and I can send this in a small satchel for $8.25.  Please see here for full details on payment and post.  If interested, please click the email link below, the fabric name will come up automatically, and I will get back to you asap.
